Pokémon. The word on everyone’s lips at the moment!
Our son has been a Pokémon fan for many years – he had a Pokémon-themed birthday party in 1st grade, and you may have noticed he chose a Pokémon henna tattoo recently. In fact, I had to give him a Charmander henna tattoo just last week! And you should see how many Pokémon cards, plush toys, plastic characters and other paraphernalia he has. I’ve joined the ‘club’ and recently bought myself a Pikachu scarf, which is apparently his good luck charm for his soccer games 😉
So when I asked if he would like a bit of a Pokémon theme in his bedroom, his eyes lit up! We all enjoyed searching Pinterest for inspiration, and you can find a few of the ideas we pinned here.
We have a way to go yet, but I thought I would share a couple of the really quick updates I have made.
Firstly, I made a sign for his door (inspired by this pin)
I did an internet image search for ‘no Pokemon’ for the art. Then just made the poster in Microsoft Word.
We liked this idea for a Pokémon Centre to corral the array of plush toys. I found a large wire basket/bin in KMart (cost $12). All the toys just fit in it, but I may have to get a second at some stage…
I searched for Pokeball images, and I already had downloaded the free Pokémon font from his birthday party some years ago. You can find it at dafont.com.
As an aside, I like the look of their “Ketchum” font too, I was looking for one to do a name plaque for the bedroom door…
Again, I used Microsoft Word to make up the sign. And I haven’t made a spelling mistake – I’ve used the English (UK) spelling for Centre, not the English (US) spelling.
The last item I have to show you today is the Pokémon Garden, inspired by this pin.
I found the bowl with the fake plants at KMart (cost $9). Yes, I could have used something from around the house, with some sort of plant from the garden. But that would require care and maintenance, which I’m not sure it would get! So I went with the fake option. He can play around with the mini Pokémon and make his own combinations here. But he likes this.
If you were wanting to add a little Pokémon magic to a room, these are 3 simple ideas that you can do quickly and easily.
We’ve already chosen some wall decals from eBay which we are waiting on. And I’m thinking about how to style his bed. I could just buy a doona set, (and I might still do that) but I’m thinking of another plan.
He loves the little changes we’ve made so far! Stay tuned for more when they’re done 🙂
